The Duke Energy Foundation has awarded the Alamance Community College Foundation with a $10,000 grant to support scholarships for workforce development training, with a focus on underrepresented populations.
The Duke Energy Foundation funding will support the ability of the ACC Foundation to provide scholarships, including tuition, books, and supplies, to low-income students with a focus on students of color. Preference for the scholarship program will be given to students in energy-related sectors, including advanced manufacturing and cyber-security. Other forms of support will be provided through emergency assistance grants, childcare grants and work-study programs.
“We’re proud to partner with Alamance Community College to empower students with the skills needed to pursue careers in fields critical to our state’s energy future,” said Hank Henning, Government and Community Relations Manager for Duke Energy. “These initiatives are essential to ensuring we have a skilled workforce to help meet energy needs as North Carolina continues to grow.”
The longtime partnership between Duke Energy and Alamance Community College has included a $97,500 River Resources Grant in 2019 that helped return part of the lower campus to its original native prairie environment, which serves as a riparian buffer to the adjacent Haw River.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support to meet the needs of communities where Duke Energy customers live and work.
The Alamance Community College Foundation has awarded scholarship and financial aid to students since 1983, providing funding for professional development activities for faculty and staff, and establishing endowments to provide for future growth and instructional chairs. Professional development funds from the Foundation help pay for faculty and staff continuing education and memberships in professional organizations.
