Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration

The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology curriculum provides the basic knowledge to develop skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial systems.

Topics include mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls and safety. The diploma program covers air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, tools and instruments. In addition, the A.A.S degree covers residential building codes, residential system sizing, and advanced comfort systems.

Diploma graduates should be able to assist in the start-up, preventive maintenance, service, repair, and/or installation of residential and light commercial systems. A.A.S. degree graduates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of system selection and balance, and advanced systems.

Train in a world-class facility.
Students who choose to study Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology at ACC train in the state-of-the-art Advanced Applied Technology Center. This new facility offers expansive training space and cutting-edge technology, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom through hands-on practice.

Three degree options are available. Students can pursue:

  • An Associate of Applied Science degree in Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology (approximately 2 years of study)
  • An Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology diploma (approximately 1 year of study)
  • An Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology certificate (approximately 1 semester of study)

Earning Potential
Entry-level range: $8-$12 an hour
With five years’ experience:  $14-$22 an hour
(Contingent on economy and geographic location)

Most Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology students at ACC secure employment before completing their program.
